If I have to have a past, then I prefer it to be multiple choice (Joker, Alan Moore, Batman: The Killing Joke). Even though the Joker is one of Batman's most terrifying villains, I see this quote as very relatable. Everyone remembers their past differently, some ignore all the dark bits while others soak in it while others can ignore or even accept their past.
